Item upgrades allow players to increase the level of armor and weapons that can be equipped. This increases the effectiveness of the equipment, in addition to sometimes adding buffs or the rerolling of an affix.
It is important to keep in mind that even though you can upgrade your magic and common equipment, it's generally not worth the effort. Unique and rare equipment will soon surpass upgraded magic and common equipment.
Cost
When a player decides to upgrade an item, they must spend Gold to upgrade the item. The cost to upgrade an item is based on the item's current level and the type of upgrade. Upgrades to weapons are typically cheaper than upgrades to armor, since weapons have lower requirements. The amount of Gold required to upgrade an item increases when the item is upgraded to an upper level.
The upgraded items will also have upgraded stats that will improve its performance in different ways. This may include increasing its attack power or critical strike chance. The upgraded item can also give additional bonuses to the weapon it is equipped with. These upgrades are able to be used to boost a variety of purposes such as to increase the overall strength of an individual or group unit. They can also affect the overall the gameplay.
The items can be upgraded at any item upgrade r NPC in the game. Generally, these NPCs are located in major cities or questing spots. Players can also find upgraders by visiting dungeons with high-level bosses, or by talking to the NPCs in their faction's garrisons.
The system of upgrading items in World of Warcraft provides players with the possibility of upgrading the level of armor, weapons, and trinkets. This process is very similar to that of gear reforging in Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor however, instead of using the currency that is appropriate players need to visit an NPC for upgrading items to complete the process.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when it concerns armor and weapons. Based on the upgrade path you choose, each item level increase will cost Crests or Valorstones. The cost are prohibitive for those who don't have the funds or are unable to grind.

Requirements

Rerolling upgraded items is only possible if the item that was upgraded was Epic Rare, Rare or Unique. (Dice 6 can be dropped by monsters 21+, Giants and Bosses; Dice 12 is dropped by Bosses). You will also require different amounts of Minerals, Erons and Giants.
Time is a major factor.
Item upgrades are a way to increase your ship's performance and gear without having to level them up. Rewards

Some upgrade components also come with cosmetic effects. Players can purchase upgrade components by crafting, purchasing from vendors or on the Trading Post, looting, or receiving as rewards. Additionally, players can recover upgraded items by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them with a salvage kit. Glyphs that are placed in tools for gathering can be swapped out without restrictions.
A player can reroll an item into a different upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button with an arrow for reroll. This alters the layout of the item's window and allow players to choose up to six items to "recycle". The item that is recycled will be exchanged with an item of level 1 of the same kind. Rerolled items will not retain their status, nor will the resources used to upgrade them.
The maximum level of upgrade for an item is determined by its tier and quality. Common items can be upgraded up to the maximum level of six, while Rare and Epic items can be upgraded up to level nine. The item upgrades are added to the base stats of the item. This means that they will not increase further after a certain level.
