World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item lets players increase an item's gear rating up 700 points, and then add a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you decide to take them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading because of their distinctive stats. (For example the perfect rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items such as weapons don't really change after an upgrade, and aren't worth the effort.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats, such as the chance to crit, attack damage, PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. Some weapons also have an unaffected bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit. This bonus can sometimes be more than the damage that an upgrade alone can do.
The cost of upgrading a weapon depends on its rarity and current level. For instance, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use a higher tier of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.
The upgrade of weapons can also change their base stats. This is usually a positive aspect, but it may also have negative consequences. Upgrades can render items impossible to use, unless you are very lucky.
Items of armor can also be upgraded to boost their stats. For instance, if you have chests or helms it will boost its base defense while gloves and belts will increase their strength and dexterity. Armor also has a reroll option for its Enhanced Defense percentage, which means that it can sometimes reroll to a lower value.
The upgrade template for a weapon will display the new stats that it will get when upgraded, along with their relative values. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will strike 3 times less often as it is an absolute statistic.
Rerolling a weapon is also possible by pressing the green button on the item menu, using the arrows that circle. This will roll an item and change its statistics, but it will not reset the weapon's level or bind it to account status.

Armor
Adding a few upgrades to your armor can make huge differences in your ability to endure. Certain sets can provide MASSIVE improvements in the resistance to curses, poison, fire, and magic. This can make it easier to navigate difficult areas. In general, the greater defense you can offer your character, the greater health you can receive from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.
To upgrade your armor, go to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. There are four fountains in all each of which requires you to complete a unique side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. After you've completed the main quest and the corresponding fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.
The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor is different. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to ten Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the first upgrade, and anywhere between five Rubies and ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep up with a decent-sized group of adversaries in most cold conditions and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded to +20 defense, providing the protection needed to survive a full on raid with a few of your friends.
You can't upgrade armor like weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical power or spell power. It's also worth saving your armor upgrades to use for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you'll wear for the final boss fight, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town and you will be able to unlock some perks on your armor. You'll generally want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to win the game. For instance the Longsword or Battleaxe. It's nevertheless beneficial to have a few upgrades to the armor on your chest and helmets so that you can sneak around some monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the player, give a temporary effect. There are five types of potions, each having specific effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to increase their effectiveness. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.
Upgrades to potion require a certain amount XP. This can be obtained by crafting them on a table or by placing them in the Alchemist chest. However, the cost of upgrading is dependent on the type of potion you want to upgrade, and also on the item's Mark Level and Rarity.
To upgrade a potion you need to right-click it in your inventory. Select "Upgrade" from item upgrading . This will open an GUI that lets you select the potion you wish to upgrade, and the amount of experience they'll offer when upgraded. Upgrades to potions can be made in batches of up to five at a single time, and the XP they earn will be added to your current XP level.
Once a potion is upgraded and stored, it will not degrade until you take it out again or break the bottle within which it is kept. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will also allow you to change its name.
Version 1.7.2 brought a few changes to the mechanism of potions. Splash potions, for instance have now a duration of zero, not the 22.5 seconds shown on the hover display of the item. The table of potion can now be constructed using four Wood Planks and two Glass. This allows it to be used by players playing Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions are not compatible with cauldrons like Java Edition. This is the same for using a potion within the cauldron that is filled. This will draw out the potion, and refill the bottle.
Lastly, there are now lingering potions, which are made using dragon breath and splash potions. Redstone is also added to lingering potions to extend their effects. The table of potion ingredients has been rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added, such as the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket could be a small, inexpensive ornament or piece jewelry. It can be a reference to a piece of art or a decoration that serves a purpose, but is not particularly important like a thimble. In some traditions, trinkets are used to symbolize affection or friendship, particularly between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players as well as weapons or armor, as well as potions. These can be upgraded by visiting an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate currency. Trinkets unlike other items that can be upgraded can be exchanged at any time without losing stats.
The upgrade vendors can be found in major cities and the capital of each zone, as well as in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrades to trinkets are an affordable alternative to buying a new one. One can upgrade a trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base level as the previous trinket however, it will also come with an additional 1% bonus upgrade.
Once the old Trinkets are no longer useful they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players, making them an attractive alternative to gold.
In general players should make upgrades to their top-priority items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, followed by their secondaries, and finally other gear items that they will not be replacing soon (for instance an earring or cloak). When choosing which items to upgrade, players must also be aware of the class's preferred stats. For instance when Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for tanks, they should be focusing on upgrading their chest, helm shoulders, belt, and helm.
After item upgrade become unusable trinkets can be upgraded to a higher level. The upgraded trinket will give you an additional 1% bonus. A re-upgrade, however, will cause the trinket to be destroyed unless it is saved using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or a salvage tool. Upgrades to trinkets can be more expensive than other upgrades, but still cheaper than buying new ones.
